Since I can apparently have three more free icons...
I know one of you *stares at flist* had (has?) an icon from the hand touching in Moebius during the briefing. File folder exchange between Jack and Sam.
If you do, please come forward and let me know where I can snag it (and who to credit of course).
Thanks.

I've been catching up on some season 1 episodes previously unseen. I liked and got a bit teary eyed at Cold Lazarus, got some touching and funny moments out of The Torment of Tantalus but boy, was Brief Candle bad. As in cringe-worthy bad.
Perhaps knowing the plot beforehand also didn't help because really, no suspense left at all, but that doesn't always impair the enjoyment of an episode. Old O'Neill was grossing me out and his relationship with Kynthia was... on the edge of weird and wrong. Not even in relation to Sam because at this point they weren't into any kind of relationship other than professional. I guess sometimes eps just don't click with me. :)

This sad excuse for a fic needs a serious once over and some retcon but, in the attempt to ease my conscience about having left a WIP IP for months, I'm posting the final part.
Posting a WIP at all was a really bad idea. To my defence, some delay was due to thinking it was better to get to watch season 5 before finishing it (which did help with some plot points) as it was set in that timeframe and then the darn thing just refused to cooperate. Figures.
Part 3 and links to parts 1&2 can be found here.
Setting: Season 5, after Desperate Measures Spoilers: Desperate measures, Solitudes and potentially Endgame, also Summit/Last stand Pairing: Jack/Sam Classification: after all I've read on LJ recently, I really don't know how to classify it anymore so I'll just say: 'Beware, straight writer'
Disclaimers: All publicly recognisable characters and places are the property of MGM, World Gekko and Double Secret Productions.

I was pleasantly surprised by Paradise Lost. I was dreading a really slow-paced ep (like, even more than usual) about two guys stuck on a planet. Instead, it had a good dose of tension (Maybourne is a despicable character but he brings good drama and snark to the show) and Jack acted smart, figuring out what had happened before and was happening again. As a Jack-centric episode, I liked it better than Abyss, which didn’t quite live up to the hype.
Between Metamorphosis and Paradise Lost, it’s fairly easy to consider Teal’c, the shipper extraordinaire, as canon. His concern for Sam’s mental well-being in Paradise Lost, starting well before the locker room scene, was quite touching. For a season rumoured to be ship-light, season 6 is proving itself positively, those two eps had some nice touches.
Jonas is okay, a bit too much on the genius side as he seems to be a mixture of Sam and Daniel, solving scientific and linguistic problems without so much as batting an eye. Nirrti herself acknowledges his ‘advanced’ status but then Nirrti freaks me out, she looks and sounds like some Brazilian transsexual: rather masculine built and Goa’uld male voice associated with S&M clothing and generous cleavage. Freaky, I tell you! * g *
Thinking back on the end of season 8 and the differing reactions to the writing of the ship there, I wondered about my own definitions of subtle and ambiguous.

I realized while watching Reckoning part 2 a few days ago that I had mistakenly used the name Siler in a fic while actually thinking of the character Davis, whose name was then checked for in an episode transcript. I made the correction on the fic's LJ post and nicely bugged the admin at Heliopolis to upload the corrected version to that archive site, especially since the fic is being nominated for the Sam/Jack fic awards. Okay, fine.
Except, now I'm watching 48 hours, get to see Major Davis and go: What? He's a Davis too?
Surprised by the double use of the family name, I decide to check again on the Davis I was thinking of. And low and behold, the technician formerly known as Walter Davis is now supposedly Walter Harriman? WTF?!
Worst thing is, I wasn't happy about Davis because of possessives in the fic that had me cringe at Davis's greeting even though it's grammatically correct, from what I understand. I should have used Walter. Bah, humbug. *sigh*

I had heard Stargate wasn’t the best thing around for good character development and I think the numerous fics where ‘any season’ seems good enough as a time setting should have tipped me off on the lack of strong characterization even when I was still giving the benefit of the doubt to the show.
Spoilers taken into consideration and with a grain of salt, I have no faith on SG PTB to do a good job with Sam/Jack resolution, even if it is a positive one. I don’t think they’ll be able to veer off from their usual ambiguous tip-toeing around, let’s not even mention the handy reset button. They’re in it for the money (and the fun maybe too, let’s not be too harsh), they’ll milk the show until it’s too dry for any investor to keep an interest. Pushing the Sam/Jack issue back every time they have a new (and so-called unexpected) season slated is just another way of showing they don’t know how to make it work properly, let alone write it interestingly. If they never wanted to actually go down that road then they should have dropped the topic altogether seasons ago.
I don’t see how they could do a merely decent job with 6 episodes left and no build-up of whatever sort so far. I feel sorry for both characters and consequently actors. It seems that PTB rely too much on their ability to just conk the characters on the head to either make them remember ‘feelings’ or bury said ‘feelings’ on demand. The rest of the time is called characterization limbo (or fanfic, *g*).
The SG shippers deserve a medal for sticking through the whole time. No wonder some of them have gone crazy. As far as I’m concerned, if I had been watching from the start, I’d be just gone by now. I’ll be gone soon enough anyway. This was just a fling, once it’s no longer fun, there’s no point in staying around. I’ve never liked Daniel. Teal’c could keep me interested if only he was given more than bare bones and it looks like Sam will be shafted next season, one way or another. Season 9 watching sounds doubtful.

Happy New Year to all!
I come bearing what was meant to be, when still in my head, a cliché-ed 'Sam's first visit to the cabin' drabble but apparently Sam and Jack lobbyied for more lines of dialogue. So, here we go, a ( cliché-ed cabin ficlet )

The thing is going to be longer than anything I've done in... months. Dunno if it's such a good thing. Hopefully, part 4 will be the last.
Somehow I feel that I'm not doing a good job with writing Daniel. I don't know if it has anything to do with not being too fond of the character himself. Even so, I would like to believe I'm at least doing him justice. I'll see about redemption later. Anyway...

I hope TPTB won't be messing around with the editing of the last S8 eps to be able to hit any reset button like they did between S7 and S8.
As far as RDA being there only for 4 eps, that remains to be seen. The number of eps may go up and he may also get to shoot short sequences in bulk for more eps than that, spreading out his presence in the season a bit more.
Methinks that despite the success so far of Atlantis, The SCI FI Channel wants to see how Battlestar Galactica the series holds up before giving up one of its best ratings provider. By the end of the first run of episodes for BSG, they'll have their answer and depending on that, who knows, there could even be a season 10 for Stargate SG-1! *g*

Ever had a fic for which your intent was either misunderstood or missed? It seems it was the case with 'Just a dream'. I thought I had managed the balance between subtle and anvillish but apparently not. So now, the title gets a question mark and a couple of sentences have been added. I find the new version too straightforward and still think the original was clear enough, but if people didn't get it then it couldn't be. My mistake.
My thanks to Lyss for her help in finding out what the problem was.
Here we go ( Just a dream? )

Unfortunately, not part three of the previously posted fic. This is what happens when you start writing three different stories at the same time. :)
Classification: angst Set: early Season 8 (pre-Affinity). This was in the works before Affinity (which I haven't seen in entirety) came around. Seems I was walking some of the same ground with Pete less of a pusher/stalker. And pretty absent too. :) Spoilers: up to early season 8, usual ship-friendly episodes Pairing: Jack/Sam Rating: R (I think, but YMMV)
Disclaimers: All publicly recognisable characters and places are the property of MGM, World Gekko and Double Secret Productions.
It probably could use a beta. Volunteers welcome. I take critic with grace. Usually. :)

My apologies in advance for any blatant mistake and inadvertent mistreatment of canon due to the non viewing of all the episodes of this show and the non use of a beta. Why write fic then? You probably wonder. Honestly? Beats me too. *g*
